Our History
Mr. Andrew Tse, the founder, established Clover Seed in 1929. He was an excellent gardener, and in order to pursue his interests in gardening, he purchased a piece of land in Hong Kong island and started to grow vegetables and flowers on his farm.
In addition to obtaining seeds from the local Hong Kong market, he also spent his days collecting vegetable seeds from other countries, which were very different from the ones available. As one of the first persons to introduce high quality seeds from overseas, Andrew was able to turn this personal hobby into a retail and wholesale business in Hong Kong. During the 1950s and 1960s, seed trade rapidly flourished, and our brand became well known locally and served as the market
leader on high quality flower seeds.
In 1967, Andrew Tse sent his son, Dr. Anthony Tse, to the University of California, Davis to study Horticulture. Dr. Anthony Tse returned in 1975 with a doctorate in Plant Physiology and joined the company. He developed the company past trading and into contract hybrid seed production in China on behalf of industry-leading overseas seed companies. In the 1980s, the Seed Production
Department was established. At the same time, Dr. Anthony Tse invested in his company's future by opening the R&D department to breed our own products.
In 2016, Lawrence Tse, the son of Dr. Anthony Tse, joined the company. Lawrence earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Environmental Studies at Santa Clara University. He has spent his time following his father and learning how the International and Chinese seed markets interact.
In 2024, we will be celebrating 95 successful years of engaging in the international seed industry. We have been fortunate to not only survive but flourish in the last 5 years. We owe this all to our employees, customers, suppliers, and most importantly, farmers. We appreciate the trust you have put in us, and we hope that the services we provide have been fruitful for all.
